Annuity Actuarial- Data Management Officer PRO00013
Description Job Summary: The focus of this role will be to instruct, direct and check the work of business analyst personnel in the Data Management department as well as identify, evaluate, and implement operational changes to improve the efficiency and accuracy of information distributed by the Data Management department.
This will include continuous review of production data processes and documentation for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
The successful candidate will use their technical expertise (or manage staff that has this expertise) to act as a liaison between the Financial Actuarial department and the Systems group to facilitate the identification of process improvements, system design, testing and implementation of large and/or complex technical projects.
Projects include the development of large data files to feed actuarial forecasting, valuation and risk management systems, automation of year-end financial reports, and ongoing maintenance and testing of actuarial systems and servers.
Main Accountabilities: Reporting to the AVP Finance Actuary, the Data Management Officer has the following responsibilities: ' Month-end Production Manage month-end process for actuarial data files (Systems and Finance Systems)-facilitate, manage, and set priorities.
EV, Forecast, CFT, DS, Triton Supervise and review all data issues, and control report results Troubleshoot production (programs) problems Troubleshoot data problems.
Resolve by correction or workaround, e.
g., Option Values and Treasury Rate problems Recommend and drive implementation of changes needed to resolve/fix production problems.
YE-respond to NAIC requests, update data section in AAR and AOM. ' Controls and Compliance-Data Sarbanes-Oxley o Resolve all data and IT open issues o Update Data and IT process flows as changes occur o Monitor compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
Respond to Audit Requests o Deloitte & Touche-Provide data and answer questions-YE and SOX o Upon request-OSFI, states, IRS, internal audit o Data and Software Audits ' Ad-Hoc requests Respond to ad hoc requests from upper management, Market Research, Product, Inforce Management and Actuaries.
o Develop monthly production reports based on ad hoc requests, as appropriate.
' Create Data Files Specs /Development o Create new files or Update files for new products-Suggest and negotiate requirements.
Facilitate specifications.
Manage process and priorities.
o Respond to file modifications requested by actuaries.

o Design validation reports to verify file accuracy.
o Recommend and implement process changes to improve file accuracy and production standards.
' Management Manage two(2) person unit.
Supervise reports’ deliverables.
Qualifications College degree is required plus three to five years of progressive experience in data management, or in an insurance position with demonstrated technical expertise in several lines of insurance.
The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of insurance processing systems and technical documentation as well as a demonstrated aptitude towards problem identification, comprehension and resolution.
The position requires strong communication skills, both verbal and written, organizational skills, interpersonal skills and project planning skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel and Word is required.
A good understanding of Sun Life’s organizational structure and annuity products as well as a general proficiency in mathematical concepts is a plus.
